The album was a damn sight more exciting than its predecessor and a welcome step forward in the right direction, according to reviewer Stephen Thomas Erlewine, who said that Linkin Park's previous material was blandly similar to that of several other nu metal bands, and he praised Reanimation for attempting to break new ground.
